One of traditional way to prevent wooden buildings from termites is by using tobacco and clove. These natural cleanser are already used by Kudus people in Central Java for many years.

As we know, tobacco (Nicotina tabacum) contains alkaloid that is a tobacco’s secondary metabolite which is used as a wood protective. When alkaloid merged with wood, the extractive core of the wood is increase and prevent the wood from damage.

On the other hand, clove (Caryophyllus aromaticus L) is a fenolat with eugonal as the biggest component on its matter. The fenolat has fungicide that can protect the wood from microbiology damage. The way is only oiled the extract of the tobacco and clove to the wood.

In Indonesia, this way is used as a preventive for cultural heritages that was made by wood, such as Balairung Sari Tabek and Gadang Rosam Syarih in Nagari Sampur, Tanah Datar, West Sumatera, Masjid Tuo Kayu Juo in Solok, West Sumatera, and Gadang Engku Larah Paninjauan House and Gadang Matur House in Agam, West Sumatera.
