The presidential visit of Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to Astana, Kazakhstan, on September 1 to 3, 2013, has a strategic significance for the national interests of Indonesia, specifically in cultural cooperation.

The visit was carried out as the invitation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to commemorate the 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is also a reciprocal visit to the previous visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Indonesia in April 2012.

Based on the bilateral relations between the two countries, both countries signed the “Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Culture” and also convened the “Indonesian Cultural Festival”. Therefore in 2014, the Government of Kazakhstan initiates to organize a “Festival of Kazakh Culture in Indonesia”. The event is scheduled to be chaired by the Minister of Culture of Kazakhstan, Arystanbek Muhamediuly.

The festival involving the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is scheduled for 3 days, starting 12 – May 14, 2014 in Jakarta. The cultural festival featuring screenings include films, photo exhibitions of Kazakh culture and performing arts (music concert orchestra), will be held at the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) Art Center Jakarta.

On the first day (May 12, 2014), at 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00 pm, there will be the trilogy movie screenings in the cinema XXI TIM playing the movie entitle The Leader’s Way, which tells the biography of President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On May 13th, 2014, there will be a photo exhibition about the culture and the progress of Kazakhstan, at 10:00 to 21:00 pm and the concert music orchestra at 19:00 to 21:30 pm at the Teater Jakarta.

On the last day (May 14th, 2014), there will be a City Tour including 5 visit spots which are the National Monument, Plaza Indonesia, Sarinah, Istiqlal Mosque and National Museum of Indonesia. It is followed by a movie screening entitled Myn Bala: Warriors of the Steppe, which tells the story of the Hero of Kazakhstan.

The festival is purposed to broaden the knowledge and insight of culture for both film-makers, community culture, academics, students, students and the community at large. The success of the festival is expected to strengthen the friendship between the people of both countries, especially in art and culture.
