Menara Kudus Mosque Complex is located near the west side of Simpang Tujuh Plaza, which is the central city of Kudus today. Administratively, the Menara Kudus Mosque is located in Kauman Kulon Village, Kota, Kudus, Central Java.
The complex of Menara Kudus Mosque is surrounded by populous housing. The borders between houses and the mosque is dim because the wall of the mosque and the houses have been connected, especially on the north and south side. On the east side of the mosque is verged with Menara Street, while on the west side is joined with a hairbreadth village’s street.
The archeology data relate to the Kudus Tower Mosque Complex is the inscription above the mihrab of the mosque. The inscription talk about the celebration of the building and also the name of the Menara Mosque, Al Aqsha Mosque in Al Quds city. The word Al Quds, that means holy, then pronounce as Kudus by the local Javanese people.
Another archeology data, estimated older than Menara Mosque is Dalem Langgar Mosque. According to sengkelan memet, which is read as trisula pinulet naga, the Langgar Dalem Mosque was built in 863 H or 1458 C. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the Muslim housing had been established since XV C, where the Menara Mosque also been built at the same time.
Menara Kudus Mosque Complex is divided into two parts, mosque and cemetery. The cemetery is thehe Sunan Kudus’ tomb, one of member of Walisongo. The Menara Mosque has eleven yards that is bordered by Padukraksa and Bentar Temple hedge. The mosque and the cemetery are located in the earliest court, while on the second yard, which is located on the south of the mosque, is a place of the main road into the Sunan Kudus’ graveyard.
On the west side of the mosque, there are the third and fourth yard of the mosque. On the fourth yard, there is two-open-structure named Bale Bubud. This frame is used as paseban on a place for the guess who want to crusade. At the central of the yard, there is an open-structure named tajug, which is used as the place for guess, while on the northeast side, there is a place for ablution.
There are some tombs on the fifth yard, which are Poncowati Prince’s tomb, and a Sunan Kudus’ Senopati. The sixth yard is a place for Bentar Temple gate and two graveyards. On the seventh yard, there is a Paduraksa-form gate and two graveyards. The Sunan Kudus’ tomb is located on the eight yard.
